Now that the Christmas break is behind us, We can finally take a moment to reflect on a very hectic, yet successful year.
A lot happened at Hawthorn Brewing Co in 2015 including:
Ranging in the UK across 212 Majestic Wine stores for our Pale Ale and Pilsner
A Container of Australian IPA made its way to France.
We appointed a distributor in South Australia.
Our Pale Ale went national with Dan Murphys (joining our Golden Ale).
We appointed additional sales Reps in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Our first ever Brewshed Collection was released “Red Rye Hand Red Ale”.
We attended trade shows in Tokyo and Shanghai and saw exactly what’s happening with the craft beer scene in those countries.
Our beers collectively won : Gold, 4 x silver and 4 x bronze medals at various beer awards in Australia, Japan and England.
Attended 14 beer festivals across the country and conducted close to 90 in store tastings. What a great way to meet our customers and talk all things craft beer.
2016 has started with a bang with the release of our second BREWSHED COLLECTION beer, a SUMMER WITBIER”
Hawthorn ‘Summer Witbier’ is our take on a Belgian style white beer with a ‘summery’ twist. We’ve fermented this beer extra dry, and in addition to coriander, cardamom and wheat, we’ve added two types of citrus to make it extra refreshing during the warmer summer months. It’s been business as usual over the past few months at Hawthorn Brewing Company.
Festival Season has come and gone and we had great days out in Geelong, Ballarat, St Kilda (three times), as well as Sydney and Brisbane. It is good to meet so many dedicated craft beer fans. These festivals are great days out and give us, as Craft Brewers, a chance to showcase what we are all about.
Our export market continues to grow, with advanced talks under way with USA, India and China. Watch this space for exciting news about all three over the coming months.
We have two more festivals this month . GABS (Great Australian Keg Spectapular) in Melbourne and Sydney are possibly the biggest festivals in Australia, and we have released a special brew to mark the occasion.
Our latest release from the BREWSHED COLLECTION is “MIDNIGHT IN BOMBAY” A Dark Spiced Wheat Ale.
Dark as a Bombay night with a hint of deep ruby red, we’ve used plenty of roasted malt which provides the dark colour but also contributes smooth aniseed and cocoa flavours. The use of smoky Black Cardamom adds further roast complexity. The unique characters from our special wheat yeast are complemented by the addition of cloves, whilst coriander seeds and green cardamom pods add a light citrus flavour. MORE MEDALS !!!
We have kicked off the awards season in style, picking up a Silver medal for our Golden Ale, and Bronze medals for our Pale Ale and Australian IPA at the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA).
The AIBA are the second largest beer awards in the world, receiving 1793 entries from over 30 countries. The standard of competition is extremely high and HBC is proud that three of its beers received medals.

Hawthorn Brewing Company has secured a Chinese distribution deal resulting in its Pale Ale being available across five provinces in Southern China. The beer will began appearing in stores from late July. Bottle artwork has been slightly altered and the beer will now feature a new ‘local’ label.
The deal, on the back of winning a Silver medal at the 2015 Asian Beer Cup, comes after 12 months of planning and a trip to a Shanghai trade show to investigate the Chinese market.
Our Asian presence will continue to grow as talks continue in other local markets, including Philippines and Japan, where Chief Brewing Officer Hamish Reed will be a guest judge at the 2016 International Beer Cup in Tokyo in September
